About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Chelsea secured a commanding 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium in this Premier League clash. The result was largely expected given Chelsea's superior form and league position, as they continue to push for a top-four finish. The match began with Chelsea asserting their dominance early on. Cole Palmer (GAP +4.5%) was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick with goals in the 13th, 35th, and 38th minutes. His clinical finishing left Wolverhampton's defense scrambling and set the tone for the rest of the match. Wolverhampton managed to pull one back through Tolu Arokodare (GAP -0.8%) in the 54th minute, but it was too little, too late. Chelsea's lineup saw significant changes, with six new faces compared to their previous match. Angel Gomes, João Pedro, Pedro Neto, Marc Cucurella (GAP +5.5%), Wesley Fofana (GAP +3.3%), and Andrey Santos were brought into the starting eleven, replacing Benoit Badiashile, Liam Delap, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jorrel Hato. These changes were part of a strategic rotation by the Chelsea head coach, likely influenced by injuries and suspensions affecting players like Mykhailo Mudryk and Romeo Lavia. Wolverhampton made three changes, introducing Adam Armstrong (GAP -5.9%), Matt Doherty (GAP +0.4%), and Angel Gomes, while Emmanuel Agbadou, Rodrigo Gomes, and André were left out. The adjustments, however, did not yield the desired defensive solidity, as evidenced by the early goals conceded. Chelsea's tactical setup allowed them to control the midfield, with Enzo Fernández (GAP +3.9%) and Moisés Caicedo (GAP +4.2%) orchestrating play effectively. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton struggled to maintain possession and create meaningful chances, despite a spirited effort from Pedro Neto (GAP +5.3%). This victory keeps Chelsea firmly in the hunt for Champions League qualification, while Wolverhampton remains in the lower half of the table, needing to regroup and address their defensive frailties. The result highlights Chelsea's depth and adaptability, crucial as they navigate the latter stages of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
